Ancestry Synopsis at start.

Isaac Butcher was born in 1720 in Bishops Sutton, Hampshire. He married Hannah Pitters on 20 June 1748 in Chilton Candover, Hampshire.

One source at FindMyPast states that the available Parish Records for Bishops Sutton, Brown Candover, Preston Candover, and Chilton Candover, all start in 1752, later that this Isaac Butcher's suspected date of birth.

Another source states that Hampshire Parish records commence from 1538. I need to check which Parishes are included in the earlier date.

 I Butcher

On the 20th June 1748 a Isaac Butcher married a Hannah Pitters in the Parish of Chilton Candover, which in near Alresford, in Hampshire.

The printout is from the Hampshire Genealogical Society, however, this copy was found on Ancestry.

Below is a map of the Parishes of Hampshire, including dates of formation.

It appears that Bishop Sutton was formed in 1711.

In 1538 Thomas Cromwell ordered that all parishes should keep a register of baptisms, marriages and burials. In 1597 an order signed by Elizabeth I required that these parish records had to be on parchment, and that previous entries going back to 1558 (the start of her reign) had to be copied into these registers. The content of early registers is often different, as it depended upon what the individual vicar wanted to record, and they were mostly written in Latin.
